felt really good on the L’s today, felt more flexible on the snatches.
ALSO: today myself and fellow trainer Ryan were approached by a lady (who turned out to be the “fitness director” for recreational facilities), and she asked us for our emails, and told us that we could no longer perform our routines as we are because we (and I quote) “are bringing in equipment not approved, which is considered dangerous equipment, and are performing dangerous movements with that equipment, as well as using our equipment impropery. Also, you boys have been creating a specticle of your workouts, which is not allowed. If I see any of this behavior again, I will shut you boys down.”
So, Crossfit is pretty much banned from the app facilities because it was “undermining thier values.”
I must say, I think she was upset because we had at least 12 new people show interest today, and her personal trainers dont have a SINGLE client right now…..
WE NEED HELP HERE, SOME SORT OF UNITING OF CROSSFITERS
Ben,
Make sure you check your student handbook and go through the terms of use of the fitness facility. Remember you pay a fee to use that facility as part of your student fees and you have rights. With those rights come responsibilities, but I’m sure you guys are within the rules that have been put in place. Also, check on the date of rules put in place. It will be worth taking the fight to a higher power to state your case if needed. If at all possible getting certified as a crossfit trainer could really help you out.
You might ask her for literature to support her dangerous movement claim. And what does she mean by dangerous equipment? Rings? KB’s? Guess all the gymnasts and the whole russian military are stupid.
Once again you can see that people are scared. Why don’t you post your message on the main site and see what support you can find.
paul,
I posted on the main site, and I do have a meeting with the only person who has more authority than she does. I will see what he says, but apparently any equipment he has not pre-approved to be in the gym is what’s dangerous (it’s basically completely subjective to his ideas of whats good or not)
Hi Ben,
. . .or should I say the latest CF victim. You know you aren’t the only one nor will you be the last person to be thrown out of a gym because of CF. It comes down to fear of the unknown and a fitness method that people are unfamiliar with and in typical human nature we tend to squelch what we are afraid of. I agree with Paul in that you should check your handbook and get clarification on the use of the facilities but keep in mind that if you do take this to the higher ups it will probably boil down to insurance coverage and the fact that you will be taking business away from their trainers. Imagine that! I guess this is why most CFers have had to retreat to their garages. Definitely email CF HQ and perhaps CF Hickory and CFNC in Raleigh. I’m sure they would have something to say about it and maybe if this was a collaboration of NC gyms App would listen. We’ll do anything to help; I love a good cause, especially when it’s in the name of CrossFit!!
Ben,
I checked out the App web site to see what they say about their fitness center. I think you are in trouble - the first thing that they mention is the juice bar.
Best of luck.
Mike
